Right now.....

So, right now, with our recycling project, we just have to put our board and report together and we will be done.
One last question: Q: Tell me one thing you learned while doing this project.
Callie: "Recycling is very important to our lives and to the earth to make it green friendly."
Scarlett: "Recycling makes our world better."
Candy: "Recycling is fun."
Audrey: "Trash is yucky."
Michael: "Recylcling is good but the trash was nasty."
Alice: "It was very interesting."
Marie: "There are seven different kinds of plastic."
Alyssa: "I learned how to make a blog."

Where we are right now

Right now, we are working on our presentation to prove to the principle that we need recycling. We have a recycling bin in our classroom; of course, it's just a trash can that we wrote "recycling" on. The janitor is not respecting our recycling project because he is just throwing away all the stuff in the recycling bin. We left him a note but I don't know if he listened.
It just occured to me that I haven't said anything about ewaste yet. Ewaste is electronic waste. Ewaste is electronic devices that have a circuit (sp?) board. Circuit boards have gold in them as weel as other valuable metals.
So, this is Marie, signing off again!

November 15

Guess What People!? November 15 is National Recycling Day!
You know, recycling is a good thing. Paper can be recyled up to 11 times. (I don't know whose job that is, you know, counting how many times paper has been recycled, but I don't want it.)
We went to Keep Norfolk Beautiful last week, and it was fun. They had solar panels, and solar tubes, and recycled carpet and linoleum. They had a water garden ('cause it floods.) and a battery recycling box. That's pretty cool, don't you think?
Remember: Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle.

Yesterday was our last trash sorting day.....

So, yesterday was our last day sorting trash.  It was kinda' gross.  We watched a movie yesterday and since we didn't have popcorn so we ate what was left of a bag of pretzels.  (About Half)  So that was there, so was a lump of jello.  YUCK!  I don't know what any of the other groups found, but that was what Alyssa and I found.  In the end, our result for percent of recyclables and compost that we throw away is: (drum roll)50%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  We were kind of off (we thought that there would be 65% insted of 50%)  But we still have enough evidence (well, I think) to get recyling bins.

What it's like sorting trash at our school

Personally, I think some of the trash we find at our school is pretty gross. The other day, someone found a chicken bone. Ine of our tarps is covered in pasta sauce. In Middle School, we find a lot of tissues because almost every one has had a stuffed up nose lately. Yesterday, we had a really high average percent (for Children's house 1) of 99%. Our total average for the day was only about 40% though.

Question of the Day #7

Q: Which classroom produces the least amount of trash per student?
Answers: Michael: Ann's room (Non-nappers room)
Alyssa: Children's hour 3
Callie: Todler room
Mrs. Frizzle: Children's house 3
Audrey: Lower Elementary
Alice: Upper Elementary
Candy: Music Class
Marie: Children's house 3
Scarlett: Upper Elementary
